I always find the new year to be an invigorating and encouraging time. A great scripture for the new year, just as it is for every new morning, is Lamentations 3:21-25. “But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in him.’ The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul that seeks him.”

God has gifted us with a new year to serve him as a congregation. We know there are significant challenges ahead as we prepare a budget for our church’s ministry, and yet we also know that God is faithful and he can be trusted to provide us what we need to serve him.

This past year we have had to say goodbye to some families and individuals who have moved away and a few friends who have died.   We miss them. At the same time this is a warm and welcoming congregation. We have had new people in worship with us during this Advent season and they have noticed your welcome and acceptance. I hope you will keep it up.

Look around at church and see if there’s someone new you don’t know, and say hello. Think about whom you might invite to a worship service, a Bible study, or to one of our fellowship events. As a new year begins, let’s make a commitment to reach out to new people with the love of Christ and welcome them into our church family.

As we look to a new year, I hope that we will resolve as a congregation to grow spiritually: to be faithful in worship to deepen our love for God; to be involved in a group study which deepens our faith and understanding; and to live in a way that shows by our words and actions that we serve Jesus Christ.

See you in church,
